Description
Souvenir book features the comedy "Burlesque" starring Bert Lahr and Rochelle Hudson, circa late 1940s. "Burlesque" was a story of backstage life during the original vaudeville era (the original meaning of "burlesque"). Multi-page book is printed with black and white photos on good-quality buff paper. The cover reproduces an oil painting of Bert Lahr by artist Walt Kuhn. (Lahr is probably most famous for playing The Cowardly Lion in the movie "The Wizard of Oz."This program includes extras: the Mayfair Theatre (Portland, Oregon) playbill stapled to the inside, a newspaper review glued on the inside cover, a color insert advertising an upcoming performance of "The Desert Song" operetta starring Edward Roecker, Gale Sherwood, Jack Good and Iris Whitney.
The Mayfair Theatre was located in a building opened in 1910, originally for the production of operas, and later became the Fox Theatre.
In overall very good condition, except for the back cover which was glued into a scrapbook for decades. I was unable to remove it without some of the paper adhering, and I didn't want to try to remove it.
