Almost 20 years old. The Gulden Draak is the Dutch name for the Golden Dragon that sits atop the belfry in Ghent Belgium. The legend of the Gulden Draak says that it was first featured on the prow of a Norwegian Kings Viking ship on crusade across the oceans. Later the King offered it to the Emperor of Constantinople. Hundreds of years later the giant statue was transported by Count Baldwin the IX to the Belgium regions. In 1382 the statue was mounted above the belfry to protect the legal documents inside and standing for Freedom and Might. And as the brewmaster gazed upon this statue, he was thus so inspired to create his new ale and name it just that. The Gulden Draak!
