Introduced in 1910's, movie lobby cards were created to be displayed in foyers or lobbies of movie theaters and used to compliment the movie posters. Mostly, they were used to entice movie goers by showing specific dramatic scenes from a current movie or to highlight popular movie stars. Lobby cards ended in the 1970's and early 1980's. Typically, a complete set would consist of 8 to 12 cards, including one title card and 7 to 11 movie scene cards, either 10"x8" or standard size, 11"x14" (particularly US lobby cards), as well as rarely 16” x 20”. Lobby cards were a form of advertising that revolutionized the look of graphics. They were distributed by the Hollywood studios publicity departments, usually in sets of eight to twelve images, depicting the content of a newly released movie.
