    Description

    OLD FAITHFUL
    YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
    HAND TINTED PHOTOGRAPH
SIGNED by HAYNES in PENCIL on BORDER
This photograph has an amazing history.  If you are looking at this listing, you already now about Frank Jay Haynes and his famous photographs of Yellowstone National Park and specifically of Old Faithful.  I am guessing that the photograph of Old Faithful in this listing was used as the cover art work of the 1916 HAYNES GUIDE THE COMPLETE HANDBOOK YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK.  What makes this particular photo extra rare and special is the inscription written on the back of the frame.
It says "Received from Marian Schenck. Daughter of Horace Albright. 10/87 in memory of Horace."
I googled Horace Albright and found out he lived from 1890-1987.  He was appointed assistant director of the National Park Service in 1916 and was acting director from 1917-1919.  He was also the superintendent of Yellowstone National Park and assistant director from 1919-1929.  I found an article about Mr. Albright written by his daughter, Marian Albright Schenck, after her father's death in 1987.  I am guessing Horace Albright personally knew Frank Haynes and was given this signed photograph from Mr. Haynes somewhere around 1916.  Marian Schenck gave it to one of her father's friends, family members or colleagues after his passing in 1987.  The new owner wrote the inscription on the back of the frame.  It ended up at an estate sale in the Denver, CO area where I purchased it several years ago around 2017.  I hung the photograph on my office wall.  I recently moved and for the first time read the inscription on the back.  I started doing some research on Mr. Albright and Marian Albright Schenck.  Marian passed away at age 93.  I have found out this particular photo has a great connection to both the official photographer of Yellowstone National park, Frank Haynes and to the someone who held high positions in the running the National Park System, Horace Albright.
Original frame. Matted on a matboard.  Does not have a year.  I am guessing early 1916.  NO water damage to mat or photo.  The photo measures about 7 3/8" wide x 9 1/2" high.  The frame size is 13 1/4" wide x 15 1/4" high.  Selling in "as found/vintage" condition.  Please take a look at the photos for details and consider them part of the description.
